M3ODEL PIs would like to share the courses that they offer during the semester time to all students interested in learning new approaches and techniques and their applications to specific problems within each research field. For more information, please contact each lecturer.
Summer Semester 2024
Atmospheric Physics:
Modelling using partial differential equations (3V+2Ü) – Peter Spichtinger
Tuesday & Thursday 8:30-10:00 (start date April 22nd), room 04-426, Staudingerweg 9
exercise hours will be determined in the first lecture.
Stochastic models (3V+1Ü) – Peter Spichtinger
Tuesday & Thursday 10:30-12:00 (start date April 22nd), room 05-134, Johann-Joachim-Becher-Weg 21
exercise hours are integrated into the lecture
Earth System Modelling – Holger Tost
The course introduces the functionality of climate models and their different components. The lecture is relatively broad and students from other disciplines could most likely follow the content, as well as MSc students in Meteorology and BSc students in Environmental Sciences.
Advanced Topics in Atmospheric Dynamics – Volkmar Wirth
The course assumes quite some knowledge in basic atmospheric dynamics.
Geosciences
Introduction to Geoscientific Programming (09.065.111.B) – Boris Kaus
Thursdays 14:00-17:00, room N 25 (-01-421), NatFak, J.J.-Becher-Weg 21
Dynamic Processes and Data Science – Boris Kaus & Evangelos Moulas
Fridays 9:00-11:00, Thermodynamik-Labor 03 283, NatFak, J.J.-Becher-Weg 21
Computer Sciences:
Modellierung 1 (Modeling 1) – Michael Wand
a basic introduction to algorithms for modeling phenomena and analyzing data using linear models (like least-squares, pca, fourier-analysis, signal theory, etc.), with emphasis on implementation and applications
Mondays 12:00-14:00, room 04-224, Staudingerweg 9
High Performance Computing – Bertil Schmidt
Thursdays 12:15-13:45, room 05-514, Staudingerweg 9
Mathematics:
Numerical Methods for Stochastic Differential Equations (in German) – Hendrik Ranocha
Mondays 10:15-11:45, room 05-426, Staudingerweg 9
